Are the museum's resources available for public research?

The society is overseen by an elected Board of Directors and operated by professional staff and community volunteers who share a passion for the historical legacy of Alamogordo and New Mexico.

Yes, we encourage students and researchers to utilize our on-site archives. While some rare materials require an appointment, many of our primary sources are accessible during regular operating hours.

Where do you get your website and social photos?

All of the photos featured on our website and social media are captured by our Web and Social Media Manager and Wednesday morning docent, Tara Leite, owner of Leite’s Lens Photography. Through her photography, we are able to showcase our exhibits, events, and the unique history of the Tularosa Basin in an authentic and engaging way.

What are the museum admission prices?

Admission to the museum is:

Adults : $5

Military (Retired + Active) & Seniors (55+) : $3
Children 12 & under : Free


We are a non-profit organization, and while entry is low, donations are gratefully accepted to help us continue our mission of preservation.

Is the museum accessible to all visitors?

Yes, our facility is fully ADA compliant. We feature ramp access at the main entrance and accessible restrooms to ensure that every member of our community can explore the basin's history comfortably.

Where exactly is the museum located?

We are located at 1004 N White Sands Blvd in Alamogordo, New Mexico. Our central location makes us an easy stop for both local residents and tourists traveling through the Tularosa Basin.

Can I book a guided tour for my group?

Guided tours are available for school groups, civic organizations, and large parties. To ensure a docent is available for your visit, please contact us at least two weeks in advance to schedule your tour.

Is photography permitted in the museum?

Personal, non-commercial photography is allowed in most areas of the museum. However, for the preservation of light-sensitive artifacts, flash photography is strictly prohibited in all galleries.

Is there a fee for research assistance?

While brief inquiries are free, extensive archival searches conducted by our staff involve a standard hourly fee. This support directly helps maintain the museum's preservation programs.

Our collection holds over 10,000 historical photographs, regional newspapers dating back to the late 19th century, Pioneer family records, and documents from the Tularosa Basin's early developmental years.

Research visits must be scheduled at least one week in advance. Please contact our archivist with your research topic so we can prepare relevant materials before your arrival.

How can I become a member of the Historical Society?

Membership applications are available both online and at the museum reception. You can join at several levels, including individual, family, and sustaining memberships to support our ongoing preservation efforts.

Is my financial donation to the museum tax-deductible?

Yes, the Tularosa Basin Historical Society is a registered 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. All contributions are tax-deductible to the fullest extent permitted by law, and we provide formal receipts for all gifts.

Does the museum accept donations of historical artifacts?
